Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has described calls to dismiss Black Stars coach Otto Addo as premature.
The 48-year-old coach has faced mounting pressure despite guiding Ghana to a draw and a win during the September international break of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Following a strong double victory in March, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Chad before securing a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium in Matchdays 7 and 8.
Despite these results, criticism from fans, pundits, and sections of the media has intensified, with calls for Addo’s dismissal growing louder.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams recently expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, while former Majority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu questioned Addo’s suitability to lead Ghana to the World Cup should the team qualify.
However, Sannie Daara, now serving as a Senior CAF Media Officer, believes such demands are premature. He suggests that any decision regarding Addo’s future should await the conclusion of Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign.
“Calling for Otto Addo’s sack now is too hasty. We should wait until the Black Stars’ World Cup qualification is decided,” he told Asempa FM.
Addo was rehired on a three-year contract, with an option for two additional years, in March 2024. Under his leadership, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but he is expected to lead the team in their remaining qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros next month.
